Caden got a hermit crab a few years ago and within 24 hours, the smell that came from it's cage made your eyes burn. It was honestly the most horrid smell we had ever experienced. That crab lasted less than a day in our home and I said I would NEVER get another....
Fast forward to the beach trip....
Yes, we now have two hermit crabs...one which is called "Batcrab." We are on the third week of having these little guys and so far, they don't stink at all! We had one pinching mishap when Preston picked up "Batcrab" and it clug to his finger with a death grip. Other than that, these things have been the easiest pets we've ever had!

Batcrab! I love it!
We went to the shore specifically to buy Evan a hermit crab...came home with one "normal" size and 3 babies....all of which died within 2/3 weeks. We had a cold spell in June and they were in our Florida room. I guess it got too chilly for them :-) You know, if conditions are right they can live to be over 50 years old! really! Good luck with Batcrab! Terry
ps.(oh, maybe the last one smelled because it had mites. Mites like their warm humid environment and can live inside their shells with them, yuk. You have to bath them and clean everything if that happens)
Wow! What little I can see of the coloring on that crab's shell makes it sound like "Batcrab" is aptly named!
LOL...that is so funny. I LOVE all your photos.
