Is it me, or did 2008 fly by? In a way, I am glad that year is behind us, but I know I shouldn't be wishing away time. Sometimes is hard not to, when we want to hear news that our file is moving forward, and it easy to want to wish the days away that we don't have Avery home. I hope 2009 is a great year not only for us, but for many families whose files are still being processed, held up, in limbo, or floating in mid air! Our file continues to be in IBESR, and although we haven't been in THAT long (ONLY 3 1/2 months) it is disappointing since we heard all files would be signed out by Christmas. I knew that was too good to be true, but the rumors were flying and it's hard not to believe and get all caught up in it. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, some families have been in IBESR for well over a year and continue to wait...how frustrating.
We had a rather quiet New Year's Eve. We had shrimp, steak and for dessert...cannolies, YUM. I had a bit of a panic attack as Preston asked to try a piece of shrimp, which he LIKED (amazing...the boy likes NOTHING!) Anyway, he started to complain that his mouth and throat were itching. Then I had convinced myself that it looked like his throat was swelling shut! So for the next 20 minutes I peered down his throat making sure that air could still get through! You know you're getting old when the only type of excitement you experience on New Year's Eve has to do with your kid's throat itching from a piece of shrimp!
Now we are looking forward, to what we hope will be a wonderful year of progress, answered prayers and homecomings! Happy New Year!

Hoping there is a lot of good adoption news soon.
There are always rumors. We all heard last March that 100 file had been released from ibesr but it turned out not to be true and we were all heart broken.
But eventually the news does come and after ibesr the file goes directly to parquet, sometimes the same day.
Praying with you for a year of progress!
Happy New Year!!!
The Internet is flush with rumors. How they all get started, I will never know. We also found this out the hard way when we were preparing our dossier back in November of 2006. There were all these rumors that the old adoption laws were going to be upheld and that you had to get your paperwork in by such and such a date. We were of course freaking out. But we learned that until someone from your orphanage/agency speaks directly to you about your specific situation, you should not put too much stock in what is being said.
I love the visual picture of you checking your kiddo for a shrimp allergy-that would so be something I would do! I once let a girl with a peanut allergy assemble a pinecone bird feeder. You know the ones all elementary kids make where you put peanut butter on top of the pine cone and then roll it in bird seed? I didn't think twice about it because we weren't going to eat it but the smell and the thought of peanut butter seemed to be a bit much for her. I'm glad she didn't have a total attack; then I would have felt terrible. (And her parents were not very easy to deal with anyway so I can't even begin to imagine how that conversation would have gone!)
I pray that your file will move quickly through all the offices and that 2009 is a wonderful year for all of us adopting from Haiti! :o)
Happy New Year! 2008 flew by faster than any other and I am happy, too! :)
Praying this is a good year for all adoptive parents!
sounds like Preston needs a good allergist... :)
Happy New Year to you too!
We are FINALLY home from out 2 week trip to Massachusetts.
